What We Plan to Grow

Our agricultural plan for 12+ acres of California high desert — designed around water efficiency, desert-adapted crops, and year-round production once infrastructure is in place.

Farming in the Mojave

California City sits at 2,300–4,000 ft elevation with less than 6 inches of annual rainfall. Our plan accounts for these conditions.

300+ Sunny Days

Abundant solar energy for photosynthesis and solar-powered irrigation.

Hot Summers

Summer highs over 100°F require shade structures, mulching, and heat-tolerant varieties.

Low Humidity

Dry air reduces fungal disease pressure but increases water demand.

Well-Fed Irrigation

Drip irrigation from a groundwater well — zero reliance on rainfall.

Cool Season (Oct–Mar)

Growing Strategy

Designed for maximum production with minimum water in a desert environment

Drip Irrigation Only

No flood irrigation, no sprinklers. Every drop goes directly to the root zone. Estimated 60–80% water savings vs conventional.

Shade Structures

Shade cloth over growing areas to reduce evaporation and protect crops from extreme summer heat.

Heavy Mulching

Thick organic mulch to retain soil moisture, reduce ground temperature, and suppress weeds.

Seasonal Rotation

Heavy production in cool season (October–March) when water demand is lowest. Summer focus on heat-tolerant perennials.

Greenhouse / High Tunnel

Protected growing space for year-round production, seedling starts, and temperature-sensitive crops.

Soil Building

Desert soil needs organic amendment. Composting, cover crops, and worm castings to build fertility over time.
